Noyes, Hall & Allen CELT Challenge Triathlon

Tri For Preservation 2011

The first annual Tri for Preservation Sprint Triathlon and Aquabike, presented by Noyes, Hall & Allen Insurance, was held on Sunday, August 21, 2011. Building upon the six-year history of the former CELT Challenge Triathlon traditionally held at the end of September, the Tri for Preservation started at Crescent Beach State Park and featured an ocean swim in the well-protected waters of Kettle Cove.

The new venue, coupled with strong sponsorship support and a highly competitive field of over 300 participants, made for a successful event on a beautiful summer morning. The post-race awards ceremony and pancake breakfast coordinated by the CE Lions Club provided a fitting end to the event.

Initial planning is now underway for Tri for Preservation 2012, with a working date of Sunday August 19th, 2012. For more information regarding this event, including sponsorship opportunities and registration dates, please like the Tri for Preservation Facebook page.

Tri for Preservation 2012 will be dedicated to the life of David A. Aschauer, a distinguished economics professor and devoted family man, who passed away during last year's race.

The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust and Noyes, Hall & Allen Insurance are pleased to present the 1st Annual Tri for Preservation Sprint Triathlon and Aquabike. Building upon the success of the former CELT Challenge Triathlon, the Tri for Preservation has moved to beautiful Crescent Beach State Park in Cape Elizabeth on Sunday August 21, 2011. Participants may register here.

Sprint Triathlon:
The Tri for Preservation triathlon consists of a 500-yard ocean swim along the well-protected cove of Crescent Beach. (Wet suits are strongly recommended, and may be required on race day at the discretion of the race director in the interest of athlete safety). Participants then transition to a 14-mile, rolling bike course past the scenic farmlands and marshlands of Cape Elizabeth [View map here]. The course concludes with a well-marked 3.1-mile run along the shore of Crescent Beach (on a well-maintained fire road) towards Kettle Cove and back along Route 77. [View map here].

Maine Senior Games Qualifier
The Tri for Preservation also plays host to the Maine Senior Games with the triathlon serving as a state-qualifying event for the national competition. Athletes aged 50 as of December 31, 2010 are welcome participants.

Aquabike
New for 2011, the Tri for Preservation Aquabike is ideal for those who want to compete but do not run. The aquabike features the same swim and bike course as the triathlon. The aquabike concludes upon return to the transition area after the bike leg of the race.

Triathlon Relay
Concerned that you might not want to do each leg of the race yourself? Then, form a team and compete with your friends and family! The Tri for Preservation has set aside a number of slots for triathlon teams this year, including a family relay competition.

Pancake Breakfast
Following the race, the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust will host a beachside pancake breakfast for all our athletes, followed by an awards ceremony. Since your registration includes a day pass (one pass per vehicle) to Crescent Beach, we encourage you to make a day of it and enjoy the beauty of Cape Elizabeth.

Registration
Your registration includes your race entry, a pancake breakfast, choice of race beach towel or t-shirt, park access for the day, and sponsor gifts. Online Registration is powered by Active.com, or athletes may stop by the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust office to register.

The Tri for Preservation presented by Noyes Hall & Allen insurance, an independent Maine insurance agency, benefits the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust's efforts to preserve natural woodlands, marshes, farmlands and shore lands for the enjoyment of this, and future generations.

Thank you for supporting the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust!
