Tick Talk: Lyme Disease Prevention

Bob Maurais from Mainely Ticks will share strategies to better protect your family from ticks and tick-borne diseases. Items discussed will include personal protection strategies, landscape modifications and the life cycle of the deer tick. A 25 minute presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer period - stay as long as you like.   Educational literature will be distributed, including identification guides and bookmarks. This free event will be held at the Thomas Memorial Library.

Tidepooling the Rocky Shore

Explore the rocky intertidal zone of Maine and see what kinds of plant and animal critters thrive in this special habitat! Join Natasha Rathlev of the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust on this summer evening to search for crabs, snails and other marine life. Caroline Campbell, CELT's summer stewardship intern welcomes you on a guided walk through Hobstone Woods where she has been clearing trails, updating maps, and marking trails. making the preserve more accessible and friendly to walkers. She'll also be talking with you about tick bite prevention, vernal pools, wildflowers, and more. There is another volunteer event on Tuesday, July 24th at Trundy Point Preserve from 5-7pm. We will be pulling and cutting back invasive plants again. If you have a chainsaw and would be willing to use it, please bring it! As always, summer intern Caroline Campbell will provide tools, but bring your own water.
