Monarch Month

August means monarch butterflies! Perhaps Maine’s most recognizable member of Lepidoptera (the taxonomic order of moths and butterflies), these beautiful insects return annually to northern climates to lay their eggs, hatch caterpillars, eat milkweed, metamorphose, and (eventually) fly away.
